Abu Dhabi Combat Club
The ADCC (Abu Dhabi Combat Club), is the submission fighting world federation. After being inspired by the first UFC, Sheik Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the son of then U.A.E. leader Sheik Zayed became inspired by mixed martial arts, and subsequently, different forms of grappling.
Sheik Tahnoon set out to create and build his own form of which ground fighting martial arts should be measured. He began by hiring various martial arts instructors from Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Wrestling, Sambo and more. Giving these instructors world class facilities, and bringing in the best professional fighters, the ADCC soon became the top facility for training Mixed Martial Art practitioners.
Given the multitude of different rulesets, Sheik Tahnoon created a new competition and a set of “neutral” rules that would allow practitioners of various martial arts to compete against each other (and without the brutality of strikes) to prove to themselves and others that their style was the most effective “grappling” style available. Thus, in 1998 the first Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) World Submission Fighting Championships was created.
